Kids Craft Day

Today the grandkids came to do a craft project and have lunch. We made glass lanterns for everyone to hang outside in the garden, and then we had a pizza picnic in the backyard.

We started with a pint size glass jar (wide mouth) and the kids painted them with glue & covered them in various sizes & colors of tissue paper. After everything had dried we covered the outside with Mod Podge so they were sealed & put a wire hanger on them.

Here they are with their finished project...

We even tried them out with their candles lit in a dark room of the house...they were pretty excited to see all the different colors light up! Everyone's turned out different & unique to them!

Today Gage graduated from Kindergarten. There was a wonderful program of songs about the things they had learned during the year...

and then came the big moment...receiving their caps & diploma. Gage was called up first...does that make him the class valedictorian??? I think so!

Atlee borrowed my umbrella during the rainstorm today...I was following behind her & noticed how she was using the umbrella for protection from the rain...

All I could see was her feet poking out from under the umbrella...I called to her to ask her where she was hiding and she poked her head out from under the umbrella and said, "I here"...

Kinda Snowed In

After work on Wednesday I headed to Mandi's to tend the grandkids while she went to a meeting. I knew a storm was predicted, but didn't know it was going to be so severe. It had rained earlier in the day & then the temperatures dropped, freezing the rain on the ground, and then the wind & snow arrived, covering the ice. The roads were treacherous, the wind was blowing the snow everywhere. Mandi was sent home early from her meeting arriving in the middle of the blizzard like conditions. So, do I try to drive home??? She and the kids invited me to spend the night at their house. I took them up on their offer, even though I had no pj's, toothbrush, etc...I spent the night in a sleep-over, and spent my first night in many years in a bunkbed! Gage insisted that I sleep in his room! We got up the next morning, had breakfast, & spent the morning playing games, watching tv, and then ordered pizza for lunch before I headed home. Thanks for a fun time...we'll have to do it again sometime!!

Our Christmas Gift

This year Scott & I decided to do something different for our Christmas gift. We knew there was nothing that we really needed or wanted so we decided to take a quick vacation. I am obsessed with anything Italian...food, music, the language, etc. I heard that Andrea Bocelli (an Italian singer) was coming to perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for one evening. We talked it over & decided that would be our Christmas gift. After our Ward Christmas Breakfast, we headed out on Saturday morning (Dec 13, 2010) & drove to Vegas. We arrived late in the day, did a quick walk down the "Strip" trying to locate the Venetian Hotel so we could do a gondola ride in the canal (so our Italian experience would be complete)but it was too far of a walk & we needed to settle in at the hotel & get ready for the concert. We enjoyed a wonderful evening listening to some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard in my life. The concert lasted 2 1/2 hours with 5 encore's. It was an evening I will never forget and probably a once in a lifetime experience. We went back to our room after the concert, slept for a bit, got up early on Sunday morning & headed home. Even though it was a very quick trip, it was worth every moment!!

The first half of the concert was filled with music from famous opera's and other Italian music. He was accompanied by an orchestra & full choir, along with some additional singers & an amazing violinist!

The second half of the concert was filled with beautiful Christmas music and then encore's of some of his well known songs. The evening was filled with everything Italian! I Loved it!! Click on the video for a sample of our evening...even though the sound isn't very good...you'll get the idea! (You will have to turn off my sidebar music) Thanks Scott for a wonderful gift...and for time spent together! What more could a girl want!!!

Provo Tabernacle Fire

A building that I grew up with & loved was lost today in a fire. I have fond memories of this beautiful building. I was fascinated by its beautiful stained glass windows, gleaming old pipe organ, the handcarved woodwork. I attended many LDS Stake Conferences here, climbing the spiral staircases in the turrets of the building to be able to sit in the balcony & look over the edge as those below. I sat in those choir seats as a young woman and sang in a choir. I saw my first opera performed here, I attended many fun musical events and plays in this building, Scott graduated from BYU in this building, and, although I wasn't there for it...my mom graduated from High School in this building. This grand building holds a very special place in my heart & the heart of the community. I hope that somehow it can be rebuilt to provide a place of future gatherings & memories!

Polar Express...the sequel

Tonight we enjoyed another Polar Express adventure. We have some wonderful friends, whose family puts on the Polar Express in their yard. The have small trains that you ride on, that travel through their yards to the North Pole where we visit with Santa & are also reminded of the true meaning of Christmas, the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The ride starts out with the fun side of Christmas & ends with the spiritual side of Christmas. It's something we look forward to each year!All Aboard!! Each year my aunt & uncle open their home & share the story of the Polar Express. They set up their wonderful Christmas Village complete with a Polar Express Train and share the magic of this wonderful story with everyone. At the end of the evening everyone is given a bell to remind them of the spirit and magic of Christmas. Do you still hear the ringing of the bell...I know I do!!

Scott Anderson takes over next month as the new director of Utah's Solid and Hazardous Waste Division.
Anderson, who has worked in state environmental quality programs for nearly 30 years, begins in his new role on May 3 when Dennis R. Downs retires from that position.
Department of Environmental Quality Director Amanda Smith on Wednesday announced the appointment of Anderson, who has worked on environmental issues with the state for 30 years.
'Scott has done an excellent job at DEQ, and I'm confident he will continue to shine,' Smith said.
Anderson and his wife, Annette, have two children and five grandchildren. They live in Pleasant Grove.
A graduate of Brigham Young University's environmental health sciences program who has overseen the hazardous waste program for 18 years, Anderson said he is excited about his new position.
'I plan to continue to work with stakeholders to meet the challenges ahead,' he said.
The division oversees everyday garbage, used oil disposal, tire recycling, along with hazardous waste management and chemical weapons disposal. Their work is guided by a 13-member Solid and Hazardous Waste Board, which is comprised of people from industry, government and the general public.

Catch Up...December

December was a whirlwind of activity. Scott & I enjoyed Christmas Around the World at BYU, David Lanz in Concert at the Covey Center, and our traditional Christmas concert with Ryan Shupe & The Rubber Band at UVU...I wasn't sure we could cram any more into our December but we still managed to do our Ward Christmas Party, Family Christmas Party, and many more fun activities.

I even found time to take the girls, Mandi & Kelby and Mel & Taylor and my Mom to the Nutcracker Ballet. What a fun evening watching the faces of Kelby & Taylor as they watched the ballerina's perform. They loved the music too! Taylor couldn't sit still! After the ballet I gave Kelby & Taylor their very own Nutcracker to remind them of our special day!

What a fun afternoon!! Love you all!!

On Thanksgiving we were treated to a wonderful puppet show by Gage & Kelby that they put together all by themselves!

After dinner it was play time & time to check out the adds for shopping on Friday( I refuse to go shopping on that day!!) ...even Atlee got into the act checking out the adds...

Halloween '09

I love Halloween...especially seeing all the costumes. This year the grandkids arrived as Little Bo Peep & a little sheep...or as Taylor says, "I'm Peep...Kylee's the sheep"...This is the kind of sheep I count when trying to go to sleep...Isn't she a cutie!!We had two pirates...complete with swords & knives...A pirate must always protect themselves & their "booty"....you never know who might try to steal your candy loot!!!And one adorable little elephant...What a cutie!!!

Gage had asked me what I was going to be for Halloween this year. I told him I was going to be a "Grandma" but he didn't think that was too scary. Scott took the lead on this one & decided to dress up a bit & scare the kids....when they arrived he was hiding & came out growling...they all jumped and looked a bit nervous for a moment until they realized it was just "papa".

Over UEA weekend we headed to the pumpkin patch & corn maze so the grandkids could pick out their halloween pumpkins! We chose a warm sunny day & had a great time together. We headed out thru the corn maze, went over to the animal pens to see the animals, into the spooky light alley and off to pick out the pumpkins. I look forward to this every year & enjoyed the day with Mandi, Kelby, Gage, Atlee, Melanie, Taylor, Kylee. It was fun to add two new little ones to our adventure this year! Fall Leaves

On Saturday Scott & I packed a picnic lunch & headed up the Alpine Loop from American Fork canyon over into Cascade Springs, down into Provo Canyon. It was a wonderful afternoon. We enjoyed the drive & the spectacular color of the leaves. We haven't been out to see the leaves for several years...and this year was well worth the wait. Fall is definately in the air...and in the colors!!

All this beauty...just a short drive away...how blessed we are!!!

A Picnic in the park...

Today I was invited to go on a picnic with Mandi & the kids. We went to Centennial Park. We had a picnic lunch, and then went on a nature walk through the wetlands area, where we found tiny fish, frogs, dragonflies, ducks, and lots of plants & trees...and water!!!

The kids had a great time cooling off & exploring. In the water they found fun rocks, "water skeeters", and had a great time splashing around just having fun. When we were done with our walk we played Frisbee Golf on the course at the park. The kids each have their own style of throwing a Frisbee. It was fun to watch as they practiced and improved with each throw, getting so excited when they could make it go straight and further that the last throw.

After Frisbee golf we played on the playground for a bit. The kids had fun sliding, climbing, hanging and just enjoyed being outside.

I can't believe how fast the summer has gone & now Kelby (and Taylor) will be back in school this week & Gage will go to pre-school in a couple of weeks. There were so many things I wanted to do this summer but it went so quickly! It's a good thing it will be warm for a while so we can play together on the weekends and afternoons & still do some of the things we had planned.

Celebrating 32 years of marriage

Scott & I enjoyed a couple of fun days in Cedar City at the Shakespearean Festival to celebrate our anniversary. We have made this a tradition over the last several years. We love the festival, the plays, a shopping day in St. George...it's great to be able to spend this time together!

Remodel - Phase ??? I've lost count!

So, after completing the interior of our home remodel, we have decided it's time to spruce up the exterior. We have been in need of cement work for a few years now. So I guess now's as good a time as any!!
We had some rather over grown Alberta Spruce trees up next to our home. But not anymore! A couple of weeks ago Scott pulled them out. Here is our home before they were removed...Here is Scott taking out the bushes...notice, you can see the concrete problems...

And here is the final product...
Doesn't look to bad!!! It really opened up the front of the house & has really given the basement a lot of light! Well, on to the next project... This morning when I left this is what the front yard looked like...

And when I returned home later today...this is what I was greeted with...

I've decided we are CRAZY!!! We are getting a new front walkway, porch (which will be nice to have a porch big enough that when we open the door we don't knock people off), we are fixing the front sidewalk that had settled, and fixing the front half of the driveway. I know it will be nice to have it fixed...but that just leads to the next project...fixing the lawn, flowerbeds, pulling out the dying aspen trees (1 of which we pulled out tonight) and on, and on, and on...WILL THIS EVER END???

Scott & I both enjoy feeding the birds that frequent our backyard. We have placed a couple of feeders around the yard & enjoy the sounds and activities of the birds. The only thing we don't enjoy is the cats that come into our yard just to kill the birds. We are always chasing the cats out of the yard. Tonight while working on my stained glass window in Scott's shed out back, I caught sight of a cat coming across the yard. I jumped up & headed out of the shed yelling "Get out of here"....standing at the top of the driveway, where I couldn't see her was my friend & Relief Society President, Brenda. She just started laughing & said "It's a good thing I saw the cat so I knew your comment wasn't directed at me!" Boy, was I embarrassed!

Pioneer Day

In 2004 & 2008 we had the opportunity to participate in a pioneer handcart trek, retracing the trail of the Willie & Martin Handcart Companies as well as travel on part of the Mormon Trail where all pioneers traveled.
Both Scott & I have pioneer ancestors that left homelands of Denmark, England, Wales, Scotland, South Africa to come to America in search of religious & personal freedoms. They were excited to join with the Saints & to begin a new life. I also have "pioneer" ancestors that came from Italy, not to join with the mormons but in hopes of a new and better life.
To me a pioneer is anyone that does something to pave the way for others, creating a new beginning, new opportunites, new adventures. There are many in our families that are everyday pioneers!! To them, and to our ancestors I say thank you! Thank you for starting a journey so long ago...for leaving all that you knew, your family, your language, your life & beginning again to create a better life for your posterity!! I honor each of you this day!!!

When the trek ended in 2004, Scott wrote these words, expressing so many of our feelings about those that came before...

Hogle Zoo

On Thursday we gathered all the grandkids and their moms & headed out to Hogle Zoo for our annual Zoo Day! Scott & I look forward to this day every summer! We enjoy watching the grandkids experience the zoo & seeing their excitement for the animals! Scott enjoys spoiling the kids with a gift from the gift shop. This year everyone got stuffed turtles in celebration of the Madagascar exhibit. This year was also fun because each of the 3 older grandkids were given a disposable camera to shoot their own photos of the day...I can't wait to see how they turn out! Kelby carefully took each shot, Gage was a paparazi, shooting everything & everyone in his site, and Taylor also took some time to take each photo.

These are a few of the things we saw. This crazy orange bird actually nipped Kelby on the finger while she was looking at it. We were also able to see the new baby snow leopard that had recently been born & was on display for the first time. Her mother kept her very well protected & somewhat hidden so I wasn't able to get a photo of the new cub, but it was very exciting to see!

A Day at Swim Lessons & Jumpin' Jacks

A couple of weeks ago Scott & I were able to see Kelby on her last day of swimming lessons. It was fun to see how much she has progressed, not only from last year, but from the beginning of this year. She has learned so much & seems to be at home in the water. She is a great swimmer. It's fun to see her confidence shine! Great job Kelby!!

After her lessons were done we were invited to play with the kids at "Jumpin Jacks". We had a great time playing with the kids & also sliding on the slides...we're just kids at heart I guess.

On Saturday we were able to spend the day with the kids & grandkids along with my folks to celebrate Independence Day! It was a fun day to BBQ,

Everyone got to play in the water, even the babies got in on the action...

Atlee is only 3 months old & Kylee is just 3 days old

We had a few matches of badmitton, which was a first for a few people...

We enjoyed ice cream, the traditional driveway fireworks show, & a lot of fun.

When the evening ended there were lots of tired eyes, a few sunburns, and lots of smiles!! I love holidays, especially when we can be together as family. It was even more special this year as two new little ones helped us to celebrate!!

Post 100 & Girls Camp

Let me begin by saying...Hooray, this is my 100th post! A milestone in my blogging. I wasn't sure when I began this blog that I would ever reach this mark...and now here I am 100 posts later with my life, and the lives of my family & friends documented for all to see!

Now, on to Girls Camp...

I spent this past week in the mountains with a couple of hundred young women & their leaders at camp. We were at Mutual Dell in American Fork Canyon, a beautiful place to spend a week! Our theme for camp was "Bloom Where You Are Planted!" We wanted to encourage everyone that no matter their circumstances & where they are at in life, they need to bloom, or make the best of each situation & life circumstance!! To be the best & most beautiful person they can be!

We enjoyed wonderful weather, except for Thursday night when the rain set in.

We hiked and enjoyed amazing vista's from the top of the mountain,

Dianna & I taught canoeing at Tibble Fork Resevoir,

I'm not sure my sunburn will ever go away after spending about 6 hours there...and thanks Dianna for the fun canoe races...I'm still amazed at our excellent stop and turn & that we were undefeated in our races!!!

We had wonderful speakers (Scott was one of them),

I enjoyed some spiritual & emotional "solo" time,

We had hilarious skits, a confidence course & I even had my first experience on a zipline (where I was informed I scream like a girl.....well, I am a girl!)

It was a great time spent with my friends as we continue our service as the Stake YW Presidency, as well as with those who have recently served with us!

Taylor says it's my "G" for Grandma & Kelby says that the "G" is for grandma land...when she sees the "G" she knows it's where I live. I love knowing they think I'm so special. Friend or Foe???

While working in the yard today I came across a garden snake. Last summer I ran into one while working in the yard & it scared me so bad that I killed it. Since Spring of this year this has been my 3rd sighting of a snake in my yard. I'm trying to be positive about the situation but it scares me to death everytime I see one. My head tells me friend...they are good to have around, eating mice, insects, etc...but my heart tells me foe...I hate running into them unexpectedly!! So friend or foe...hopefully I won't have a heart attack next time I run into one!!!

Il Divo in Concert

Take 4 amazingly handsome men with equally amazing voices, put them together singing in Italian, English, Spanish, and French, and you have "Il Divo".
A few years ago Mandi happened to be watching PBS & ran across Il Divo performing. She was immediately hooked on their music & shared it with me. I too, became immediately hooked. We had always hoped that they might do a North American tour, but had only been performing in Europe...and then our chance came to see them. They picked Salt Lake City as one of their stops on their 2009 North American tour. I called Mandi as soon as the concert date was announced and told her that we were going...no matter the cost!! Tickets went on sale and I jumped online to get some as quick as possible. We managed to get floor seats on the 25th row! What a great evening!! Not only did I get to see Il Divo in person but I was able to spend a great evening together with my daughter! That doesn't get to happen very often. We had a great time & enjoyed every moment of the evening!! Thanks for being my concert buddy Mandi! It was an evening I'll never forget!

The "Fun Run"

Wednesday was Kelby's "Fun Run" at school. I was able to leave work & be there to watch her and also my nieces, Bailey & Ashton. The older grades did a 2.5 mile run & the younger grades did a shorter route...although they ended up running it twice. All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't running!!! (Maybe next year??? because family can run too!)

A Favorite Recipe

I decided to do a bit of cooking this afternoon in my new kitchen...I remembered a favorite recipe that I received many years ago just after Scott & I were married. It was a recipe from his Grandma Taylor. I had tasted this rhubarb crisp at her house one day & was instantly hooked. And she graciously shared the recipe with me. Now, I Love rhubarb! I grew up eating it right out of my Grandpa's garden. I love that tangy taste!! So today I went out in my garden & picked some fresh rhubarb and made me up a batch of Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp!

Just in case you'd like to make your own...here is the recipe! Trust me, you'll love it!!

1/2 Cup Sugar 3 Tbsp Cornstarch Mix Together & add to 3 cups sliced rhubarb and 2 cups sliced strawberries. Set this aside while making the topping.

Topping: 1 1/2 Cups Quick Rolled Oats 1/2 Cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup melted butter 1/3 cup flour 1 tsp cinnamon Mix these ingredients together to form a crumbly texture. Put rhubarb mixture in the bottom of an 8" baking dish & sprinkle topping on. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or cold with whipped topping. ENJOY!!!

Morning Bike Ride

This morning we headed up Provo Canyon to Bridal Veil Falls on a bike ride. We were invited to go along with Mandi, Marty, and the kids. We met at the mouth of the canyon, unloaded the bikes for everyone, and headed out. It was a great morning, not too hot yet and not too crowded. We had a great time talking and laughing with the grandkids. Even Atlee went along for the ride...only 6 weeks old & been out on her first bike adventure...and she did great! We enjoyed time spent with Mandi & Marty. Only one trauma happened...Scott, Gage, and Kelby were riding ahead and decided to stop & wait for the rest of us....Kelby & Gage decided to hike up the Bonneville Shoreline Trail...Kelby came back but Gage didn't. When we caught up & found out that Gage was still hiking, Kelby & I took off up the trail after him, but couldn't catch up to him or find him...he is as quick as a deer!!! I was getting a bit nervous because we had gone quite far and still hadn't found him, all the while calling for him...Kelby started to cry...she was sure we had lost him! I told her to run back down & get her Dad & I would keep hiking to try to find Gage. Finally after what seemed like forever...here he came back down the trail...he had just wanted to see what was up ahead! (He is quite the adventurer) We came back down to a very frightened Mandi...with good reason, since Gage has been showing an independent streak lately & just going wherever he wants...without his Mom knowing where he is going! After everyone settled down we continued up to the falls...enjoyed the water for a few minutes & headed back down the trail.

Thanks Mandi & Marty for the invite and for a great adventure...a bike ride & a hike all in one morning!! It was great to spend some time with you all!!!

I love that line from Dr. Seuss!! I have always dreamed of traveling...traveling to places that speak to my spirit...the places of my ancestors! I have dreamed of walking the streets where my grandparents were born, where my pioneer ancestors left in their desire for a better life. I have dreamed of Italy, Denmark, England, Scotland, Wales, Canada...and of other places in the world.

Today I am one step closer to that dream....finally, my passport is here!! I can go all the places that I have dreamed of! Now I just need the money!!! There's always a catch to any dream. But, for now, I'll take it one step at a time...

Atlee's Blessing Day

On Sunday we had the opportunity to attend Atlee's Blessing at church. What a great day!! Marty gave her a beautiful blessing!! Atlee looked beautiful in her white dress...the first of many to come. After church we headed to Mandi & Marty's home for a gathering with family. The weather had been rainy & a bit cool all morning....but prayers were answered...the rain stopped, the sun came out, and it even warmed up a bit. We were able to celebrate outside in the yard. Fresh fruit, warm muffins and bagels, juice...everything was delicious!!

As of Saturday we have finished our kitchen (and our main level) remodel. I was able to finally cook on Easter Sunday & had the family all here!! After 4 months of no running water or the ability to do dishes in a sink or cook in an oven or on a real stove...I am in heaven! Other than a bit of decorating to do...here is the final result...

Baby, Birthdays, Cabinets & Countdown

We are in the final countdown to our new grandaughter. Mandi is scheduled for her c-section on Tuesday morning. I am more that excited to meet this new little one & have her as part of our family. There is nothing more special that a grandchild!! I've promised Mandi that I will let her be the first to announce her arrival & post photos of her...so if nothing shows up here about this little one for a bit just be patient...it isn't that I'm not excited to share news of her....but a promise is a promise! So for now just know that Scott & I are excited to be grandparents again!

This weekend Scott & I are celebrating our birthdays. We had hoped to spend Saturday evening with our kids & grandkids going out to dinner & celebrating. We were able to spend the evening with Jason, Mel, & Taylor at Los Hermanos.

We had a great time with them. Here we are celebrating with Taylor.

Mandi, Marty and the kids were home battling the flu...none of them doing very well. I've promised Kelby & Gage that we will do dinner with them when everyone is better & the new baby is here & Mandi has recovered. We hope they feel better soon!!

As far as our remodel goes...we are in the home stretch (I think??) The living room is complete with carpet...minus furniture. The stairway is done. The cabinets are finally in. The handles will go on this week. The countertops should be installed by the end of the week and then the appliances can go in, the plumbing can be hooked up & the sink fixtures can go in. If all that happens...we should be completed in the next couple of weeks. Boy, this has been a long process!! We started the remodel of our upstairs on July 3, 2008...here we are almost 9 months later...it's almost like giving birth....and sometimes almost as stressful! I'm glad to be nearing the end. But now I'm wanting to start working over the downstairs...am I crazy??? I think I'll just step back & enjoy the upstairs for a bit & spend some time with my grandkids!

Another remodel update

After (somewhat) patiently waiting the new windows are in. It took 2 Friday's for them to be installed because the old windows were very stubborn in coming out. Between glue, staples, nails, and whatever else the old windows were installed with...they proved they would not go
without a fight.

The new windows are wonderful. They are quiet, energy efficient, and beautiful. They are a two tone window with white on the inside to match my shutters and brown on the outside to match the almond & brown exterior of my home. Even though this was an added expense to our remodel budget that we hadn't planned on I'm so glad we did this...and so is Scott!

The new handrail & railing for the stairs are also done. Only one minor screw up on the decorative railing...the guys that built the railing didn't build it to the specs of the guy that measured for it. Hence it was short & had to be rebuilt...another week of waiting...but it's in now & looks great.

We have been trimming out the window mouldings, the tile grout is being sealed today, the cabinets are ordered & being built at this posting...we are still trying to decide on the finish for them but think we have it...we're just waiting for a sample from our cabinet man. The stove & microwave are sitting in the living room and the fridge is being delivered next Friday...things are coming together....we've still got a way to go....painting, cabinet & appliance install, shutters installed, and them putting everything back in the kitchen. The last thing we'll do is lay the carpet in the living room & then we should be done....just in time for Spring & all that needs to be done on the exterior...it never ends...life is just one BIG project after another.

Remodel Update

Well, here it is the middle of January, and yes we are still in the midst of the remodel. As previously posted, we have completed the bathroom, our bedroom, and our office.
We have been working on the floors, hallway, living room, and kitchen. All the wall texture has been done.Our floors in the hallway, and kitchen, and front entry have been tiled, except for a portion near the back door...we are waiting on the new stair handrail & railing, which should be here this week. In the middle of this whole thing we decided that we should replace our front & back doors, and the windows on the main level of the house. That put us behind schedule a bit...the windows should be here in about a week and a half...the doors were put in last week. I love the new front door...it has 4 small windows in the top of it...the more light the better! We won't be able to paint the exterior doors until it warms up in the Spring, so for now, primer gray & white are my new favorite colors.

Let the Kitchen demolition begin...

We have been without our kitchen since Thanksgiving...I'm really starting to get used to the "camping mode" we are living in. (It doesn't look this bad now...)We still haven't ordered cabinets yet, but should get that done this week and then it should only take 3-4 weeks til they are done & installed. Last night my stove/oven & microwave were delivered and are now sitting in my living room with no place to go. We haven't purchased our new fridge yet, but soon!?! We've removed the light fixtures that were there & replaced them with can lights...I love them and it really opens up the look in the kitchen.We've put in an arch between the living room and kitchen, replaced all the handles and hinges on the interior doors, and have been trying to get all the new baseboards and casings on...they're almost done, YEA!! Scott has been busy caulking, priming, and painting. I can finally start to put things back into closets and the pantry. It's finally starting to feel like my house again, and we are getting closer to completion every day. I can't wait until it's finished...It will be like living in an entire new home...at least the upstairs! (more photos to come as we get closer...stay tuned!)

Christmas 2008

This has been an interesting Christmas at our home this year. Because of the remodel going on we have been living in chaos with no kitchen, no living room, no way to cook because we have moved out our fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc. We have been living in our family room downstairs. Because of this we didn't put up a tree or any decorations. It has been a little difficult to feel the Christmas spirit here at home. I'm glad we were able to spend time with family & friends as we celebrated the season. That did help!! With all of this going on though, I was able to reflect more on the true meaning of Christmas, that of the birth of my Savior Jesus Christ. It seemed easier to concentrate on that, without all the trappings of holiday decorations around me. I love this time of year as we celebrate His birth. I love how everyone looks outside themselves to find ways to serve others. I love how everyone is more kind & friendly. I love the music of Christmas. It brings so much peace to my soul! I love the sights & smells of the holiday. I love being with family & friends! To everyone who shared this holiday season with us,

We recently had the opportunity to attend Kelby's Christmas dance recital. She did a great job & looked beautiful.

It's amazing to see the difference between now & when she first started dance. Her confidence is so evident as she performs. She actually looks like she's having a fun time!

Taylor's Dance Class

This morning, while braving the snow & wind, I had the opportunity to attend a dance showcase

for Taylor. They showed off their knowledge of ballet & tap. They performed to "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth". It was so cute & Taylor did a wonderful job. Congratulations Taylor...you are quite the dancer!!

The Polar Express

Tonight we had the opportunity to ride "The Polar Express" at a friends parents home.

They have a couple of small scale trains that people can ride on. Each year they do this for family & friends. We took our grandkids last year & thought this would be a fun Christmas tradition with them. Not only do we ride the train, but we travel to the North Pole where we get to see Santa as well!

Even Scott & I had a visit with Santa....Thanks Santa!!

He is wonderful with the kids & shares a very important message not only about Christmas but the Savior, Jesus Christ, as well. We each received a bell to remind us about believing in the spirit of Christmas. If we believe we will continue to hear the sound of the bell...the first gift of Christmas. I'm so glad that I can still hear the sound of the bell!

After his message the kids got to shake the bells as we sang "Jingle Bells."

On the trip back from the "North Pole" we passed several large paintings of the Savior. In the background there was beautiful music playing as we looked at the representations of the life of our Savior.

It was a wonderful evening! I'm grateful for time spent with family....especially time with the grandkids!!

Christmas Concert Tradition

Last night we had the opportunity to attend the Ryan Shupe & The Rubber Band Christmas concert. This has become an annual christmas tradition for us. It's a great way to get in the holiday spirit. It's a fun, interactive evening filled with music & laughter! This year James Conlee was a special guest. His voice is so powerful & gentle all at the same time! If you ever have the chance to hear either in concert...take it!! They are well worth the price of admission!! (even though it's not expensive)

We even had general admission seats & because we got there early enough...we were on the front row!! What a great night!!

Office Complete..

We have finally completed the office redo...I'm so glad to have this room back together and I love how it turned out...

You'd think by now that we've had enough of remodeling...but no...we're on to the next two rooms which will need to be done together...the living room & the kitchen. I'm not really excited about the kitchen remodel because that means no kitchen for the holidays...no fridge, no stove, no dishwasher....just a microwave downstairs & a cooler??? sounds like fun doesn't it....we'll keep you posted!

A New Grandbaby

We are so excited to have a new grandbaby on the way...Mandi had her ultrasound yesterday...It's a GIRL!! Even though we had been convinced it was a boy we are very excited to have another granddaughter!! (Although Gage is really disappointed to not have a baby boy) Due date is April 6....I am so excited!! Congrats to Mandi, Marty, Kelby and Gage!! We Love You!

One more room completed

Hooray!! We are finally back in our bedroom. We have textured our walls, repainted, added a new light fixture, put in new carpet (our last carpet was down 27 years...boy was I glad to get rid of it), added shutters to our window...and I finally got a new bed!! We have just had a mattress & box springs for the past several years so having a complete bed is wonderful. We looked at several places but could not find anything I liked. You know how it is when you finally see exactly what you want and your search is over...that's how I felt when I saw this bed. I love the finished project!! Other that a couple of decorating things we are complete in this room. Scott has accused me of wanting to rope off the doorway & never go in....he's right!! That's just what I'd like to do so that it would stay new....I know, I'm nuts!!

We are close to completing the office...hopefully by the end of this next week!

Veterans Day

How grateful I am to live in a country that has been and is being defended by so many brave men & women. They have sacrificed so much for our freedom! I am proud to be a descendant of grandfathers who served this country! I have many uncles that have served proudly in the military. I am most grateful & proud to be the daughter of a man that served his country in the Korean war. My family has honorably served in all branches of the US military, serving in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. Included in these men are Scott's father & grandfather.
I express my thanks to these men. You have set a wonderful example and have given our family the freedoms we now enjoy. I am blessed to live in America...."the land of the free, and the home of the brave"!!
May God continue to bless America...those who live here & those who serve this country!! You are my hero's!!

Carving Pumpkins

This afternoon I took a break from the craziness of our remodel and spent a few hours carving pumpkins with Kelby, Gage, and Mandi. Kelby & Gage do not like the feel of the insides, or the guts as they call them, of the pumpkins. Getting them to help me clean mine out was a challenge....Kelby finally got her hands in for a few minutes, but was asking when she could wash her hands every few minutes....Gage on the other hand would not put his hands inside the pumpkin or touch the stuff as it came out. I just couldn't resist teasing him with the "guts" as I pulled them out.

Scott and Marty don't enjoy pumpkin carving. I'm so glad that Mandi & the kids enjoy Halloween, and the pumpkin carving so that I have someone to do this with. For years I've been the only pumpkin carver in our house! Maybe it's just a "girl thing" since none of the guys enjoy carving pumpkins.

Gage, however, did get into the act when it came time to carve....must be the act of putting a "tool" in his hands. He was all over doing the carving part!

And here are their finished pumpkins. I haven't taken a photo of my yet....maybe when they're lit tomorrow night??

A day at the Pumpkin Patch

Because of UEA the grandkids are out of school/preschool today. We decided to spend the day together. We went to the pumpkin patch... We went through the corn maze....we even found the secret room with the witch and got a treat for finding it!! The grandkids picked out pumpkins to carve for Halloween,

We visited the animals and took our traditional photos inside the large pumpkin...

This was Mel's first time coming to the pumpkin patch with us...she's always had to work. We're so glad you got to play with us today!!

We played on the slides....the kids finally were brave enough to go inside the tower to the slide. Even I got into the spirit of things & took a couple of turns coming down the slide...

There's nothing better than spending time with those you love!!

A Fun Halloween Surprise

Late this afternoon the doorbell rang. I went to answer the door & was met with a fun surprise. Our "Achievement Day" girls in our ward had put pumpkins & ghosts on our lawn & left us some fun & delicious halloween cookies along with a note from them that we had been "spooked". We have such cute girls in our ward and great leaders too!! Thanks Girls!!
